David Bowie Memorial

“On the morning of January 10, 2016, shortly after hearing the news of David Bowie's death, New Yorkers began to build a makeshift memorial outside his home on Lafayette street. These images capture that poignant moment as shown through the faces and gestures of those who visited to pay their respects as buildings in SoHo blasted his songs into the chilly morning air. Some of us were in shock, others were consumed by grief, while others stood in reverence or left notes and flowers on the quickly growing memorial. By dusk, it had grown enormously, with hundreds lining up to leave their offerings. These images depict the early hours when we had just heard the news of his passing.”
