Upper West Side Story

“The Upper West Side was the first neighborhood I lived in almost thirty years ago when I ran away to New York City at the age of 18 with all of the clothes I owned on my back. I spent my first few years in the city living in a closet-sized SRO in the upper West 70s. But, buzzing with that particular energy that only being a weird artist and running away to NYC could create, it was one of the best times of my youth. My attachment to the neighborhood was born in the late 90s, and no matter which part of the city I moved to throughout the years, the UWS would always feel most like home to me.
Upper West Side Story is my ode to a neighborhood I love. Despite its constantly changing landscape and disappearing storefronts, the charm of this neighborhood and the people in it remains. It is this charm, and a certain sense of timelessness, that I capture in these images.”
